Position Overview: Our Client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Commercial Legal Counsel to join their team. This position offers a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in the growth and success of our company. The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of legal experience with a strong background in project development and project finance, particularly within the renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Development: Lead legal efforts in the development of solar projects from inception to completion, including site acquisition, permitting, interconnection agreements, and construction contracts.
Project Finance: Provide legal support for project finance transactions, including negotiating and drafting financing agreements, managing due diligence processes, and ensuring compliance with financing requirements.
Contract Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, such as power purchase agreements (PPAs), EPC contracts, O&M agreements, and land leases.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and policies impacting the renewable energy industry, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements at the federal, state, and local levels.
Risk Management: Identify legal risks and provide strategic advice to mitigate risks associated with project development, financing, and operations.
Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal teams, external counsel, investors, lenders, and other stakeholders to facilitate successful project execution and achieve business objectives.
Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct legal research and analysis on complex issues related to renewable energy development, finance, and regulatory matters, and provide guidance to the business as needed.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in New York preferred
- 3-6 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on project development, project finance, and renewable energy.
- Strong understanding of renewable energy project structures, financing mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Location: New York City - 3 days in office, 2 days work from home
