Litigation Counsel

The In‑House Litigation Attorney is responsible for managing and overseeing litigation and dispute matters affecting the organization. This role serves as a strategic legal advisor, partnering with internal stakeholders to mitigate risk, manage claims efficiently, and align litigation strategy with business objectives. The position focuses on oversight, prevention, and resolution of disputes, often in coordination with outside counsel.

Key Responsibilites:

  • Manage and oversee all litigation, arbitration, mediation, and pre‑litigation disputes involving the organization
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for outside counsel, including selection, budgeting, strategy, performance management, and cost control
  • Assess litigation risk and exposure, provide clear recommendations to leadership, and develop dispute resolution strategies
  • Partner with business units, HR, Compliance, Finance, and Risk Management on dispute avoidance and early resolution efforts
  • Review and approve pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery responses, and settlement agreements prepared by outside counsel
  • Oversee discovery strategy, including document preservation, collection, and production
  • Support internal investigations and government or regulatory inquiries, as applicable
  • Track litigation metrics, reserves, and reporting requirements
  • Identify systemic issues arising from litigation and recommend policy or process improvements to prevent future disputes
  • Stay informed on relevant legal developments impacting the organization's risk profile

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active bar admission and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • 5+ years of litigation experience, including law firm experience; prior in‑house experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, and trial strategy
  • Experience managing outside counsel and litigation budgets
