Senior Insurance Coverage Counsel - Remote
A financially strong and forward‑thinking commercial property and casualty insurer is seeking an experienced Senior Insurance Coverage Attorney to join its in‑house legal team.
This position will play a key role in managing legal risk by advising on complex insurance coverage matters. You will collaborate closely with claims, underwriting, and executive teams to support accurate and timely decisions involving policy interpretation and claim resolution.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
- 5-6+ year's experience in insurance coverage or workers compensation coverage
- Proficiency with standard legal software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal issues to non‑legal audiences
- Proven negotiation and dispute‑resolution abilities
- In‑depth knowledge of insurance policies, coverage issues, and relevant state and federal insurance laws
Job Responsibilities
- Manage coverage disputes and related litigation from start to finish, including strategy, discovery, motions, and trial
- Draft coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, and denial or disclaimer letters
- Provide legal guidance during claims investigations to ensure good‑faith handling and proper documentation
- Coordinate and oversee external counsel on specialized matters
- Review and interpret policies to determine coverage
- Provide senior‑level guidance on insurance coverage issues involving commercial lines and workers' compensation
- Interpret insurance policies and apply state and federal insurance laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
- Support internal teams including claims and litigation attorneys on complex coverage matters.
- Work closely with leadership as responsibilities transition within the department
- Report to the Assistant General Counsel
