Corporate Counsel - Compliance

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance on compliance matters, including adherence to laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Develop and implement compliance policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments and manage the compliance hotline.
  • Lead internal investigations and prepare detailed investigation reports.
  • Perform legal audits to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
  • Support compliance initiatives related to business partner codes of conduct and governmental affairs.
  • Deliver legal training programs to educate team members on relevant laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and submit the annual compliance report.
  • Oversee the company's e-discovery processes and systems.
  • Monitor and report on legal, compliance, and risk management developments impacting the organization.
  • Advise on legal risk mitigation strategies, including insurance procurement and coverage.
  • Assist in developing and implementing crisis management plans.
  • Collaborate with Legal & Compliance team members to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with Business Management System (BMS), Environmental Management System (EMS), and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate General Counsel or General Counsel.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school required.

Experience

  • 6+ years of relevant legal experience preferred.

Certifications

  • Member in good standing of the Alabama State Bar (Attorney or Authorized House Counsel).
  • Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) preferred.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Legal research tools (LexisNexis / Westlaw).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
