US Lead Counsel - Fintech (Tribal Finance/Lending)

An international FinTech with two decades of providing technology solutions and lending services to underserved consumers is looking to bring on its first US legal hire. The Chief US Lead Counsel will lead the legal function for the United States and help the company continue to obtain lending licenses on a state by state basis. This person in this role will also begin managing a team down the road as the company continues to expand into the US. The ideal candidate is somebody both aggressive and proactive.

Job Description:

  • Review, draft, update and negotiate contracts related to financial transactions, services, and operations.
  • Assist in obtaining and maintaining lending licenses across multiple States and provinces.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory matters within the tribal and financial sector.
  • Provide guidance on governance, sovereignty and jurisdictional tribal matters.
  • Collaborate with tribal governments, organizations and stakeholders to address legal issues.
  • Work with outside counsel on handling suits, claims and other litigious affairs
  • Advise internal teams and stakeholders on legal risks, rights, and obligations.
  • Stay updated on tribal and financial law changes and asses heir impact on out business.
  • Work closely with regional teams to ensure consistency and compliance in multi-jurisdictional operations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for legal matters involving North American countries

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor
  • 3+ years of experience within tribal finance space with a strong background in reviewing contracts and regulatory matters
  • Strong negotiation, analytic and problem solving skills
  • Ideally based in California, Florida, Georgia, South Dakota or Washington State
