Senior Compliance Counsel

A leading Specialty Insurance Company is currently seeking a Compliance Counsel to play a key role in developing and centralizing the firm's compliance function, while offering autonomy and high visibility across the business. This company is rapidly growing, and is expanding legal headcount across all their North American offices. The firm is known for low turnover rates, an incredibly strong culture, and industry-leading benefits.

Reporting directly to the Deputy General Counsel and working closely with the General Counsel, this individual will be joining a lean team to primarily focus on streamlining internal compliance standards and advising senior leadership on risks. This position entails helping build out the firm's compliance function, establishing an audit process, and advising senior leadership on developments and potential concerns.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement internal systems and rules to ensure the firm is compliant with internal policies and procedures, laws, regulations, etc.
  • Remain updated on developments within the regulatory landscape and advise the business accordingly.
  • Maintain a strong compliance program; mitigate organizational risks, assess controls and execute reviews/tests to ensure compliance internally, provide actionable recommendations to the business.
  • Monitor the overall compliance function and communicate effectively internal business units accordingly.
  • Draft and review agreements as related to insurance producers and third parties; advise internally on best practices regarding relationship management with these parties.
  • Identify KPIs and metrics, while interpreting and communicating effectively to support the overall decision-making process.

Qualifications:

  • JD or equivalent, admitted to any US state bar.
  • 10+ YOE in a legal and/or compliance function within the Insurance space (strong preference for P&C or Life Insurance - either commercial or personal lines).
  • Deep familiarity with the insurance regulatory landscape.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and interface with both internal and external parties at all levels.
