About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits Attorney with deep knowledge of ERISA and related employee benefits laws. In this in‑house role, you will provide strategic legal counsel on a broad range of employee benefit plans and programs, partnering closely with Human Resources, Finance, and other internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Advise on legal and regulatory matters involving employee benefit plans, including retirement, health and welfare, executive compensation, and deferred compensation programs.
- Interpret and apply ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and other federal and state requirements impacting employee benefits.
- Support plan design, administration, amendments, and compliance initiatives.
- Collaborate with HR and benefits teams to develop and maintain compliant policies and procedures.
- Oversee and manage benefits‑related regulatory filings and responses to government inquiries.
- Provide guidance on benefits considerations related to corporate transactions, mergers, acquisitions, and workforce changes.
- Monitor regulatory developments and advise internal teams on emerging legal issues and required updates.
- Partner with internal and external counsel, consultants, and advisors as needed.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 7+ years of experience practicing in employee benefits law, with a strong focus on ERISA.
- Prior in‑house counsel experience or work with clients in the energy, utilities, or similar industries is a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to provide clear, practical advice to non‑legal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
