Project Finance Associate
A leading law firm with a nationally recognized Energy & Climate practice is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Associate to join its Energy Project Finance & Development team. This opportunity is open in either the Washington, DC or Boston, MA office.
About the Role
The successful candidate will join a dynamic, cross-disciplinary team that advises clients across the full lifecycle of energy infrastructure projects. The team is deeply involved in structuring and negotiating complex transactions in the renewable energy sector, including solar, onshore and offshore wind, energy storage, EV infrastructure, waste-to-energy, renewable natural gas, geothermal, and hydroelectric projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent developers, sponsors, investors, and lenders in the development, financing, acquisition, and operation of energy projects.
- Draft and negotiate project documents including power purchase agreements (PPAs), EPC and O&M contracts, and financing agreements.
- Advise on tax equity, construction and long-term debt financing, and public-private partnership structures.
- Collaborate with colleagues across regulatory, tax, real estate, and environmental practices to deliver integrated legal solutions.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in the jurisdiction of the office location (or ability to waive in).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in project finance and development, preferably with a focus on renewable energy.
- Strong transactional background with demonstrated experience in complex project structuring and financing.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- A proactive, team-oriented mindset with a passion for clean energy and climate solutions.
