Commercial Real Estate Attorney - Houston, TX
A growing and well‑capitalized real estate investment and development company is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Attorney to join its in‑house legal team.
This position will play a critical role in managing legal risk across acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, and financing activities. You will work closely with asset management, development, transactions, and executive leadership to support the company's expanding commercial real estate portfolio.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state (Texas preferred)
- 3+ years of experience in commercial real estate law, including transactional work
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills across purchase and sale agreements, leases, and financing documents
- Familiarity with title/survey review, land use issues, and due‑diligence processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for internal stakeholders
- Proficiency with standard legal research platforms and document‑management software
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously
Job Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial real estate documents including leases, purchase agreements, loan documents, easements, development agreements, and related instruments
- Manage legal aspects of acquisitions, dispositions, and development projects from initial LOI to closing
- Conduct and oversee due diligence, including title and survey review, zoning analysis, and environmental reports
- Provide legal guidance to internal teams regarding real estate development, construction, financing, and asset management
- Coordinate with outside counsel on specialized matters such as litigation, land use, or environmental issues
- Assist with corporate governance, entity formation, and compliance matters related to real estate holdings
- Work closely with senior leadership to support strategic planning and major investment decisions
- Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable municipal, state, and federal real estate regulations
- Report to the General Counsel
