Associate General Counsel - FERC
Role Overview
Provide strategic legal counsel on federal energy regulations, focusing on electricity sector compliance and advocacy. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience navigating federal regulatory frameworks, particularly in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs).
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver legal guidance to internal stakeholders on federal energy policy and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate across departments-legal, finance, operations, and regulatory affairs-to address inquiries related to interconnection, transmission, generation, and rate structures governed by FERC.
- Partner with internal policy and government affairs teams to interpret and advise on statutes such as the Federal Power Act and the Department of Energy Organization Act, as well as state-level regulations intersecting with federal oversight.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts to assess regulatory risks, develop mitigation strategies, and recommend actions aligned with federal energy mandates.
- Represent the company in legal matters involving federal energy statutes, regulatory frameworks, and corporate governance policies.
Qualifications
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) and undergraduate degree from accredited institutions.
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years practicing law, with at least 5 years focused on FERC-related legal work.
- Prior experience in a law firm, corporate legal team, or regulatory agency (e.g., FERC or state commission) preferred.
