About the Role
The Assistant General Counsel will serve as a key legal advisor to a well-established financial institution, partnering closely with business leaders and stakeholders across the organization. This position provides legal guidance on regulatory, corporate, operational, and transactional matters. The ideal candidate comes from a banking background and will bring a strong understanding of financial services laws, excellent business judgment, and the ability to communicate practical legal advice to both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel and regulatory guidance to business units on banking, financial services, and operational matters.
- Review and interpret federal and state laws, regulations, and regulatory developments impacting the organization.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial, operational, and transactional agreements.
- Support corporate governance initiatives, policy development, and enterprise risk management efforts.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with a state bar; Texas admission preferred.
- 4-10 years of legal experience, including experience in-house, at a financial institution, financial regulatory agency, or leading law firm.
- Experience advising clients on banking, financial services, corporate governance, privacy, real estate finance, mortgage lending/servicing, or related regulatory matters.
- Experience with financial regulatory compliance, risk management, or emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, is a plus.
