The Opportunity
They are seeking an experienced In-House Counsel to lead legal, contract, and risk management functions. This is a high-impact, on-site role based in Clear Lake (Houston area), with flexibility to work from a satellite office if located further north. The position offers direct collaboration with executive leadership and project teams, playing a key role in shaping legal strategy and ensuring compliance across all operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts, subcontracts, and vendor agreements
- Manage legal claims, disputes, and outside counsel relationships
- Oversee insurance and bonding processes, including audits, builder's risk coverage, and credit applications
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with insurance and risk standards
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies based on project trends and historical data
- Maintain legal records, approve invoices, and support vendor onboarding and documentation
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in Texas (preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of legal experience in construction law, contracts, insurance, and risk management
- Strong understanding of construction safety regulations, bonding, and compliance requirements
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
- Collaborative mindset with a strategic approach to legal and business challenges
