Senior Claims Counsel - National Insurance Company - Remote

A leading West Coast Property and Casualty insurance company with deep community ties and over 100 years of service is looking to add a Senior Claims Counsel to their Claims team. This role supports the Claims Legal team by delivering decisive settlement authority, sharp strategic insight, and high‑level consultation on complex or escalated claims. It plays a key part in evaluating jurisdictional challenges, driving consistency in claims handling, and partnering closely with claims staff to tackle the toughest files.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to claims staff on coverage, indemnification, policy limit demands, release language, and other claim‑related issues.
  • Identify matters requiring referral to outside counsel and coordinate assignments as needed.
  • Directly handle certain policyholder litigation and manage outside counsel; attend mediations when required.
  • Deliver training on jurisdictional requirements, fair claims practices, and related legal topics.
  • Respond to legal and claims‑related inquiries from internal departments.
  • Track matters reported to the Claims Legal team and maintain organized follow‑up.
  • Participate in claim roundtables, including recommendations on trial authority and action items.
  • Collaborate with panel counsel and assist in evaluating or onboarding new firms.
  • Support reinsurance reporting processes and ensure consistency of information.
  • Analyze complex claim scenarios and provide recommendations to claims leadership.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and JD from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, or Washington.
  • Minimum 3+ years of property and casualty insurance experience.
  • Experience in an insurance claims department and/or a law firm.
  • Strong background in first‑party property claims, including advising or litigating coverage issues.
  • Experience overseeing complex claims.
  • Professional designations such as CPCU are a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
