Lead Commercial Counsel - Fintech

A late stage, high-growth start up Fintech company is looking to bring on a Lead Commercial Counsel to join its in-house legal team! The role will be responsible for leading commercial contracting efforts, advising on strategic business initiatives and ensuring compliance throughout the company. This individual will work closely across a variety of teams to support the company's rapid growth and expansion

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the negotiation, drafting, and review of a variety of complex commercial agreements, including SaaS agreements, vendor contracts, licensing, and partnership deals.
  • Serve as the primary legal advisor for the companies commercial operations, providing practical and business-oriented guidance.
  • Develop and maintain contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and best practices to streamline processes.
  • Advise on compliance matters, including data privacy, regulatory requirements, and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support revenue growth and operational efficiency

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • 7+ YOE in commercial transactions; ideally with background working in-house at a Fintech or Financial Services company
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to be in the company's New York City office on a hybrid schedule - 2 days a week
