A growing policyholder advocacy organization is seeking an In-House Insurance Coverage Attorney to support its claims, coverage analysis, and strategic advisory functions. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with public adjusters, estimators, forensic accountants, and outside counsel on complex commercial and residential property insurance matters.
This role is ideal for an attorney with approximately 4+ years of experience in insurance coverage, property damage litigation, or related insurance disputes who is looking to apply their legal expertise in a highly visible and mission-driven environment.
The Insurance Coverage Attorney will be responsible for…
- Reviewing and interpreting commercial and residential property insurance policies
- Drafting coverage analyses, legal opinions, and internal strategy memoranda
- Advising internal stakeholders on policy interpretation, coverage issues, exclusions, and claim strategy
- Collaborating with public adjusters, estimators, and forensic accountants to strengthen claim presentations
- Assisting with strategy development for appraisal, mediation, and litigation matters
- Identifying and anticipating carrier coverage defenses and advising on proactive response strategies
- Conducting legal research regarding insurance coverage issues, policyholder rights, and emerging case law developments
- Monitoring developments in New York insurance law and relevant coverage decisions
- Working with outside counsel on coverage-sensitive disputes and complex claim matters
- Providing practical, business-oriented legal guidance to support policyholder advocacy efforts
The Attorney should have the following qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Admission to the New York Bar required
- Approximately 4+ years of experience in insurance coverage law or property damage litigation
- Strong experience analyzing and interpreting insurance policy language
- Experience drafting coverage opinions, legal memoranda, or litigation-related analyses
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple matters simultaneously
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Demonstrated interest in policyholder advocacy and insurance-related legal matters
