Senior Trading Documentation Specialist

Overview:

My client, a leading global trading firm specializing in commodities and derivatives, is looking to bring on a Senior Trading Documentation Specialist to join their team here in New York City! Known for its collaborative culture, long-term vision, and commitment to excellence, the team is looking for somebody who can play a critical role in managing and negotiating legal agreements for the Company's trading activities. The ideal candidate for this role will be able to be in the office on a hybrid basis, weekly, in the team's New York City office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leading the negotiation and execution of trading agreements with counterparties, including those governed by foreign jurisdictions
  • Preparing and reviewing draft contracts, amendments, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Conducting thorough due diligence before and after agreement execution, including coordinating legal opinions and documentation with senior legal staff.
  • Developing and maintaining standardized contract templates in line with evolving legal and regulatory guidance.
  • Identifying and escalating legal issues to qualified counsel when necessary, ensuring timely resolution and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborating with internal teams-Legal, Compliance, Credit, Operations, and Client Services-to secure approvals and finalize agreements.
  • Managing relationships with external law firms, including coordinating legal advice and overseeing billing and documentation records.
  • Monitoring contract expiration timelines and proactively issuing renewals to maintain uninterrupted trading relationships.
  • Supporting the business in identifying legal risks and trends and contributing to process improvements and change initiatives.
  • Staying informed on regulatory developments, particularly those impacting the New York office, and assisting in drafting compliance-related language.
  • Participating in the development of internal policies and procedures to support legal and compliance functions.
  • Assisting with dispute resolution coordination and providing support to compliance teams, including KYC processes.
  • Promoting a collaborative, values-driven culture within the Legal Department and across the organization.
  • Performing additional legal and administrative tasks as assigned by senior leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally 5+ years of extensive experiencenegotiating ISDA agreements in the New York market.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Familiarity with FIA Master Netting Agreements and physical gas/power trading contracts
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A team-oriented approach with a commitment to integrity, diligence, and high standards of market conduct
