Primary Responsibilities
- Independently manage a complex defense litigation caseload from inception through resolution, including trial, mediation, and negotiated settlement
- Develop and execute litigation strategy, including early case assessment, discovery planning, motion practice, and trial preparation
- Draft and argue substantive motions, pleadings, briefs, and legal memoranda in state and federal courts
- Take and defend fact and expert depositions
- Manage written discovery and coordinate closely with expert witnesses
- Appear at court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and other dispute resolution proceedings
- Provide strategic legal guidance and regular case updates to clients, including in house counsel and insurance representatives
- Collaborate with colleagues across offices on complex and multi jurisdictional matters
- Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and legal support professionals as appropriate
- Participate in all phases of trial preparation, including witness preparation, exhibit management, and trial strategy development
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while delivering high quality and responsive legal service
Background and Experience
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active admission to practice law in the state of Texas
- Eight or more years of defense litigation experience
- Experience handling personal injury, general liability, catastrophic injury, transportation, or related civil litigation matters preferred
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Prior client facing experience preferred
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast paced, team oriented environment
- Legal project management experience is helpful
- First chair trial experience is a plus
