The Opportunity
Our client is seeking an In‑House General Counsel to join their leadership team in Texas. This hands‑on role provides strategic and day‑to‑day legal support across all construction operations, including contracts, compliance, corporate governance, HR, and dispute management. The position partners closely with executives, project managers, estimators, safety teams, and HR to proactively identify risk, streamline processes, and support business growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts, subcontracts, vendor agreements, and design‑build documents.
* Advise leadership and project teams on contract interpretations, legal exposure, and compliance obligations.
* Ensure adherence to OSHA standards, environmental regulations, labor laws, and industry‑specific requirements.
* Manage disputes through litigation, mediation, or arbitration, including coordination with outside counsel.
* Oversee project documentation with legal implications, including notices, change orders, claims, and regulatory filings.
* Maintain corporate governance records, legal policies, and internal procedures.
* Advise HR on employment agreements, workplace policies, and employee‑relations matters.
* Support real‑estate transactions, leases, and financing documents as needed.
* Develop and implement risk‑mitigation strategies across the organization.
* Provide internal training on contracts, compliance, claims avoidance, and documentation best practices.
Qualifications
* Juris Doctor (JD) and active membership in the Texas State Bar.
* At least 5 years of legal experience in construction, real estate, or contract law.
* Strong understanding of construction contracts, claims, and dispute‑resolution processes.
* Experience drafting and negotiating GC agreements, subcontracts, vendor contracts, and design‑build agreements.
* Knowledge of OSHA, environmental rules, labor laws, and construction‑industry compliance obligations.
* Experience advising HR on employment law issues and policy development.
* Familiarity with construction planning, estimating, reporting, and working with internal project teams.
* Experience with corporate governance, legal record‑keeping, and policy management.
* Preferred experience with contract management or project management software.
