Overview:
A notable private credit platform is seeking a Legal & Compliance professional to join its growing team in a highly hands-on capacity. This individual will play a hybrid role across both legal and compliance functions, supporting the firm's commercial real estate credit platform, including direct lending activities and involvement in CMBS transactions. The position is ideal for someone who thrives in a lean, entrepreneurial environment and is comfortable taking ownership across a broad range of responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day legal support across the firm's real estate credit platform, including direct lending and CMBS-related activities
- Partner closely with and manage outside counsel on transaction execution, loan documentation, and securitization matters
- Support and oversee litigation matters as they arise, coordinating strategy and execution with external counsel
- Review and ensure compliance with underlying loan and deal documentation, including credit agreements and CMBS structures
- Lead and coordinate monthly compliance meetings, including preparing materials and tracking key developments
- Advise internal stakeholders on regulatory and compliance considerations related to lending, structured credit, and securitized products
- Support the development and maintenance of compliance frameworks, including policies and procedures
- Engage in asset-level oversight, including borrower compliance, appraisals, and portfolio monitoring
- Oversee external partners (including servicers and outside counsel) in connection with CMBS investments and loan servicing matters
- Contribute to building scalable legal and compliance processes as the platform continues to grow
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of relevant legal and/or compliance experience within asset management, private credit, real estate finance, or structured finance
- Experience with commercial real estate lending, credit agreements, and/or CMBS transactions strongly preferred
- Background working with or managing outside counsel across multiple workstreams
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance frameworks within financial services or investment management
- Ability to operate in a hands-on, hybrid role within a lean team environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
Preferred Profile:
- Combination of law firm and in-house experience
- Prior exposure to CMBS, structured finance, or loan servicing environments
- Practical, business-oriented mindset with a willingness to take ownership and operate autonomously
