Litigation Counsel

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the company's litigation docket, including construction-related disputes (contract claims, product liability, warranty matters, delay and disruption claims, mechanic's liens) and general commercial litigation (breach of contract, collections, indemnity, and contribution matters).
  • Coordinate with risk management and insurance carriers regarding tendered claims, coverage issues, and defense of insured matters; select, retain, and oversee outside counsel; establish litigation strategy, manage budgets, and ensure effective legal representation.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding all company, employee, and legal matters.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legal requirements, building and safety codes, regulatory standards, and local, state, and federal laws impacting business operations and construction projects.
  • Advise and collaborate with business teams across the organization on legal issues, risk mitigation strategies, and compliance requirements.

Education & Experience

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years of litigation experience, with significant experience handling construction litigation, commercial disputes, and risk management matters preferred.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to review, interpret, negotiate, and draft a variety of legal documents and agreements.
  • Experience collaborating with legal, audit, compliance, and risk management functions.
  • Strong understanding of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
