Our client is a global trading firm with a strong international presence, currently seeking an experienced Export Compliance Officer to join their team in Chicago. This hybrid role offers the flexibility of remote work combined with in-office collaboration, ideal for professionals who thrive in dynamic, cross-functional environments.
The Export Compliance Officer will lead the firm's export compliance program, ensuring adherence to U.S. and international trade regulations while enabling seamless global operations. This is a high-impact position for a strategic thinker who can translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable guidance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain a comprehensive export compliance program aligned with industry best practices
Collaborate with internal teams to classify products and technologies, and prepare export license applications
Serve as the subject matter expert on EAR, ITAR, and international trade regulations
Conduct compliance assessments and audits, identifying risks and recommending solutions
Interface with BIS, DDTC, and other government agencies on regulatory matters
Deliver training and provide ongoing support to internal stakeholders
Monitor regulatory changes and update internal procedures to ensure continued compliance
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; JD or Master's in Business/International Trade strongly preferred
Minimum 5 years of export compliance experience, with deep expertise in EAR and ITAR
Proven success operating within complex compliance programs
Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to simplify regulatory language
CITCS or equivalent certification preferred
Familiarity with export compliance software, FTZs, and FTAs is a plus
High integrity and discretion in handling sensitive information
