The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an Employment Counsel to join their in‑house legal team. This is an on‑site role (standard Monday-Friday schedule) based in Mechanicsburg, IL, partnering closely with HR, Talent Acquisition, and business leadership. You'll serve as the primary advisor on employment law, helping the organization scale responsibly through sound policies, proactive risk management, and effective training.

Key Responsibilities

* Ensure compliance with employment laws; spot and mitigate risk.

* Advise on ER issues, discipline/terminations, accommodations/leave, wage‑hour, WC/UC, benefits.

* Draft/maintain policies, role descriptions, and employment/separation/offer/comp agreements.

* Lead/support investigations; manage litigation/agency matters; oversee outside counsel.

* Deliver employment‑law training to leaders and HR.

* Support new locations and acquisitions (diligence/integration).

* Handle subpoenas/document requests; maintain files/databases.

* Support HR‑adjacent contracts (staffing, consulting, HRIS) and other GC projects.

Qualifications

* JD; active bar in good standing (state requirement).

* 7+ years' employment‑law experience (in‑house or firm).

* Experience counseling and handling cases before courts/agencies.

* Strong knowledge of ADA, ADEA, FMLA, PWFA, FLSA, and related laws.

* Excellent judgment, communication, and writing; pragmatic advice to non‑lawyers.

* Proven ability to manage multiple matters, build processes, and collaborate cross‑functionally.
