AVP, Associate General Counsel - Growing Life Insurance Company
Position Summary
A growing life insurance company is seeking an experienced legal professional to join their Legal & Compliance team as an AVP, Associate General Counsel. This role will provide legal counsel and support across a range of matters related to life insurance and annuity products, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and guidance on the development, marketing, and administration of life insurance and annuity products.
- Interpret and ensure compliance with applicable insurance laws and regulations at the state and federal levels.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including distribution agreements, reinsurance agreements, and vendor contracts.
- Collaborate with internal business units, including product development, compliance, operations, and risk management.
- Monitor regulatory developments and advise on potential impacts to the business.
- Support responses to regulatory inquiries, examinations, and audits.
- Assist with corporate governance matters and support Board and committee activities as needed.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
- Minimum of 5 years of legal experience, with a strong focus on life insurance and annuity products.
- In-depth knowledge of insurance regulatory frameworks, including NAIC model laws and state-specific requirements.
- Experience working in-house at a life insurance company or at a law firm with a strong insurance practice is preferred.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
