About the Role

A leading commercial bank is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate General Counsel to join its legal team. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex regulatory matters in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, supporting the bank's strategic initiatives and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and guidance on a broad range of banking regulatory issues, including but not limited to:
    • Bank Holding Company Act
    • Dodd-Frank Act
    • Federal Reserve, OCC, FDIC regulations
    • Consumer protection laws
  • Support regulatory examinations and interactions with federal and state banking regulators.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on legal risks and regulatory developments affecting the bank's operations and products.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents related to regulatory compliance and corporate governance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Compliance, Risk, and Government Affairs.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in banking laws and regulations and communicate implications to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 6 years of legal experience, with a focus on banking regulatory matters.
  • Experience at a major law firm or in-house legal department of a financial institution.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. banking laws and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience interacting with federal banking regulators.
