Agency Attorney - Torts
A prominent public agency is seeking an experienced tort attorney to join its highly respected legal team, handling complex personal injury litigation across state and federal courts. The litigation attorney will be responsible for managing complex, high-stakes personal injury cases throughout all stages of litigation in both state and federal courts. Responsibilities include:
- Leads litigation activities including hearings, depositions, discovery, motion practice, court appearances, settlement negotiations, and trials.
- Develops and executes legal strategies to resolve claims efficiently and in line with current legal standards and ethical practices.
- Evaluates liability and damages to recommend case reserves and settlement options.
- Conducts legal research, gathers evidence, prepares witnesses, inspects incident sites, and drafts trial materials such as jury instructions and motions.
- Collaborates with internal departments and external stakeholders to support litigation efforts.
- Contributes to broader legal team objectives and performs additional duties as assigned.
- Works independently and as part of a team to manage litigation caseload.
Required:
- Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below
- One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
- Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Intern
- Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment
Preferred:
- Knowledge of local, State and Federal substantive and procedural laws and regulations which impact tort litigation.
- Experience defending municipalities, corporate entities and/or common carriers and experience litigating tort claims involving motor vehicle accidents and premises liability is strongly preferred.
