Remote Labor & Employment Counsel
About the Job
Our client is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment Counsel to join its collaborative, fully remote legal team. This role offers the opportunity to handle sophisticated employment matters with an emphasis on administrative charges and demand letters, plus litigation support as needed, while working in a flexible, team-oriented virtual environment with strong institutional support.
This position is ideal for a seasoned L&E attorney who enjoys owning matters from intake through resolution, especially agency charges and pre-litigation disputes, with optional exposure to single-plaintiff litigation and higher-complexity matters.
Responsibilities
- Defend administrative agency charges (e.g., EEOC and state/local agencies) from investigation through conclusion, including drafting position statements and responses
- Manage attorney demand letters and pre-litigation strategy, including risk assessment and resolution planning
- Represent clients in settlement negotiations, including remote mediations/conciliations where applicable
- Advise clients on day-to-day employment law issues (hiring, discipline, termination, accommodations, and workplace policies)
- Counsel on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., wage and hour, discrimination, leave laws)
- Draft, review, and revise employment agreements, handbooks, policies, and related documentation
- Support or manage employment litigation matters as needed, including strategy, pleadings/motions, discovery, and depositions
- Appear at hearings, conferences, and other proceedings as required (limited travel may apply depending on matter needs)
- Supervise and collaborate with attorneys and support staff by reviewing work product and providing strategic guidance
- Partner with internal teams and leverage technology-enabled workflows to deliver efficient, high-quality legal services
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing (licensed in state of residence)
- 5+ years of experience practicing Labor & Employment Law with meaningful management-side charge experience
- Demonstrated experience handling administrative charges and attorney demand letters, including drafting persuasive position statements
- Strong background in counseling and dispute strategy; litigation experience is a plus
- Experience in a law firm environment preferred; familiarity with EPLI matters is a plus
- Excellent analytical, writing, and client communication skills with strong time management and deadline discipline
- Ability to manage multiple matters independently in a remote, team-based environment
- Practical, solution-oriented mindset with a client-focused approach
- Texas bar admission and/or multi-state admission is a plus
