Trade Compliance Director, Export Controls & Classification
Join a global technology organization as the subject matter expert for Jurisdiction & Classification (J&C), leading a critical compliance function across a diverse portfolio of advanced products and technologies. This high-impact leadership role will drive global consistency in export classifications, influence product and technology decisions, and partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, legal, and business leaders to strengthen worldwide trade compliance programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and enhance the company's global Jurisdiction & Classification program
- Provide guidance on export controls and classification matters to cross-functional stakeholders
- Monitor regulatory developments and implement required compliance updates
- Develop and deliver policies, procedures, training, and best practices related to export classifications
- Oversee classification determinations and ensure consistency across business units
- Serve as a trusted advisor to engineering, product, manufacturing, and commercial teams
- Support audits, investigations, disclosures, M&A activities, and other trade compliance initiatives
- Develop reporting and metrics for senior leadership
- Manage and mentor compliance professionals while providing leadership across a global network of stakeholders
- Travel approximately 20% as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- 8+ years of experience in export controls, trade compliance, and jurisdiction/classification determinations
- Deep knowledge of ITAR, EAR, sanctions, and customs regulations
- Experience conducting and reviewing complex classification analyses
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex regulations into practical business guidance
- Experience partnering with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with global trade management systems and compliance technology platforms
- U.S. Person status required under applicable export control regulations
