A leader in the energy sector, specializing in oil, natural gas, nuclear, and power markets is looking to expand their legal team with a Senior Counsel focused in the commercial transactions and trading space. This company is at the forefront of innovation and efficiency in energy trading and management. They are seeking a highly experienced Senior Counsel to join and make an imapct from day one.
The Senior Trading Cousnel will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support for the trading activities across various energy sectors. This role will focus on drafting, negotiating, and managing complex commercial agreements, including those related to trading and transportation of oil, natural gas, nuclear, and power. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of industry-standard agreements such as ISDAs, NAESBs, EEIs, PPAs, and EMAs, as well as expertise in transmission and transportation agreements for oil and coal.
The Senior Trading Counsel will:
Provide expert legal advice and support for commercial trading operations, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts related to trading and transportation in the oil, natural gas, nuclear, and power sectors.
Draft, negotiate, and review ISDA (International Swaps and Derivatives Association) agreements, NAESB (North American Energy Standards Board) contracts, EEI (Electricity Exchange Industry) agreements, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and Energy Management Agreements (EMAs).
Ensure that all trading activities and agreements comply with relevant regulations and industry standards. Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations affecting energy trading and transportation.
Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with commercial trading activities. Develop strategies to manage and resolve disputes and ensure compliance with
The Senior Trading Counsel must have:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Minimum of 6-8 years of legal experience with a focus on commercial trading in the energy sector. Proven experience with ISDAs, NAESBs, EEIs, PPAs, and EMAs, as well as transmission and transportation agreements for oil and coal.
Strong negotiation and drafting skills, with a deep understanding of complex commercial agreements and regulatory frameworks. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Extensive knowledge of the energy sector, including trading practices, regulatory requirements, and industry standards for oil, natural gas, nuclear, and power.
