As a Senior Utility Attorney specializing in administrative litigation, you will leverage your extensive experience to represent clients before federal and state regulatory bodies. Your role will involve high-level case management, strategic litigation planning, and advanced legal analysis. You will be responsible for managing complex cases, advising clients, and contributing to the firm's thought leadership in regulatory matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Representation: Lead and manage complex administrative litigation matters before federal and state regulatory agencies, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), state public utility commissions, and other relevant entities. Ensure client interests are robustly represented and defended.
- Case Management: Oversee all phases of litigation, from initial strategy development to case resolution. Manage case teams, including junior attorneys and support staff, to ensure timely and effective handling of cases.
- Legal Strategy and Analysis: Develop and implement strategic legal approaches tailored to complex regulatory issues. Conduct in-depth legal research, analyze regulatory frameworks, and interpret complex statutes and rules.
- Client Advisory: Provide expert legal advice on regulatory compliance, risk management, and strategic approaches to regulatory challenges. Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring clear, proactive communication.
- Drafting and Filing: Prepare and file high-quality legal documents, including petitions, motions, briefs, and other pleadings. Ensure precision and adherence to regulatory requirements and deadlines.
- Negotiation and Settlement: Lead settlement negotiations and explore alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Aim to achieve favorable settlements while protecting client interests.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Keep abreast of evolving federal and state regulations affecting the utility sector. Assess and communicate the implications of regulatory changes on ongoing and future cases.
- Thought Leadership and Collaboration: Contribute to the firm's thought leadership on regulatory issues and trends. Collaborate with colleagues, regulatory experts, and industry stakeholders to develop innovative legal solutions and strategies.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior attorneys and support staff. Foster professional growth and development within the team.
Qualifications:
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensure: Active bar membership in the District of Columbia or Virginia
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in administrative litigation with a focus on utility regulation. Demonstrated expertise in handling complex cases before federal and state regulatory bodies.
- Skills: Advanced litigation skills with a proven track record of success in administrative proceedings. Strong analytical, research, and writing abilities. Proficient in case management, strategic planning, and legal document preparation.
