Privacy and Compliance Counsel

Our client is a nonprofit organization that supports the global healthcare workforce by providing services related to education, training, and credential verification. It plays a key role in advancing quality and standards in healthcare education worldwide.

They are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Privacy and Compliance Counsel to join their Legal & Compliance team. This role will provide strategic legal guidance and operational support on matters related to data privacy, regulatory compliance, and risk management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare law, privacy regulations (including HIPAA, FERPA, and GDPR), and corporate compliance frameworks.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on privacy and data protection laws applicable to Intealth's operations, including HIPAA, FERPA, GDPR, and state-specific regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain privacy and compliance policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory risks related to data use, sharing, and retention.
  • Conduct internal audits and investigations related to privacy and compliance matters.
  • Support incident response and breach notification processes.
  • Draft and negotiate data processing agreements, business associate agreements, and other privacy-related contracts.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on Intealth's operations.
  • Collaborate with IT, HR, and business units to ensure privacy-by-design principles are embedded in new initiatives.
  • Assist with enterprise risk assessments and compliance reporting to senior leadership and the Board.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience, with at least 3 years focused on privacy and healthcare compliance.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. and international privacy laws (HIPAA, FERPA, GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
  • Experience in the healthcare, education, or nonprofit sectors preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US or CIPP/E)
  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC)
