The dynamic team in San Diego is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Large Molecule Patent Agent to join in protecting and advancing our intellectual property portfolio.
Job Summary: As a Large Molecule Patent Agent you will be responsible for managing and strategizing the patent portfolio related to our large molecule products, including monoclonal antibodies, protein therapies, and other biologics. You will work closely with our research and development teams, legal department, and external patent counsel to ensure robust protection of our intellectual property and to support our strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Patent Drafting and Prosecution:
- Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications for large molecule inventions, including drafting detailed patent claims and specifications.
- Coordinate with external patent counsel to manage the filing and prosecution of patent applications globally.
- Review and analyze office actions, provide strategic recommendations, and prepare responses to patent office communications.
IP Strategy and Analysis:
- Collaborate with R&D and business development teams to identify and evaluate new inventions and innovations for patent protection.
- Conduct patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, and competitive landscape evaluations.
- Develop and implement strategies for patent portfolio management and optimization.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, including scientists, legal experts, and management, to understand and protect key technologies and innovations.
- Provide training and guidance on patent-related matters to R&D teams and other departments.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Stay informed about developments in patent law, large molecule technologies, and industry trends.
- Monitor and report on the status of patent applications, granted patents, and ongoing litigation or opposition proceedings.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field; advanced degree (Ph.D.) is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of experience as a patent agent, with a focus on large molecules or biologics. Experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment is highly desirable.
- Patent Bar: Registered Patent Agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of molecular biology, protein chemistry, and biotechnological processes. Experience with patent databases and patent search tools is preferred.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
