About the Role
The General Counsel will serve as the senior legal advisor to a growing residential mortgage lending platform, partnering closely with executive leadership on a broad range of legal, regulatory, and business matters. This individual will oversee all legal affairs of the organization, including corporate governance, commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, employment issues, litigation management, and strategic business initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring strong transactional experience, sound business judgment, and the ability to provide practical legal guidance in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the company's lead legal advisor, providing guidance on corporate, regulatory, operational, and strategic matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, financing arrangements, and corporate documents.
- Advise business leaders on federal and state regulatory requirements impacting mortgage lending operations.
- Oversee corporate governance matters, legal risk management initiatives, and internal policy development.
- Manage litigation, pre-litigation matters, borrower disputes, and outside counsel relationships.
- Support corporate transactions, financing arrangements, licensing matters, and potential M&A activity
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of legal experience gained in-house and/or at a law firm with a strong transactional focus.
- Experience supporting financial services, mortgage lending, banking, consumer finance, or other regulated industries.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks and risk management principles.
- Experience with litigation management, corporate transactions, M&A, or financing transactions is a plus.
