Director, Patent Attorney- Genetic Medicines (CRISPR)
Key Responsibilities
- Partner directly with research and development teams to identify, evaluate, and secure IP around novel genetic medicine innovations
- Lead U.S. and international patent strategy, including directing outside counsel on drafting, filing, and prosecution activities
- Oversee patent risk assessments, including landscape reviews, freedom-to-operate analyses, and validity evaluations tied to development programs
- Manage post-grant and administrative patent proceedings in the U.S. and abroad, including oppositions and review actions
- Provide IP guidance on litigation support, due diligence efforts, transactions, and evolving legal or regulatory considerations impacting the business
Qualifications & Experience
- Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline such as molecular biology, genetics, immunology, cell biology, or a related field, with meaningful research experience
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice before the USPTO; licensed in at least one U.S. state (New York preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in biotechnology patent law, with a strong foundation in biological patent drafting and prosecution from a law firm environment
- Proven ability to manage complex, high-volume patent portfolios and work independently with minimal oversight
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior scientists, business leaders, and external partners
