Position Overview

A nationally recognized defense firm is seeking both an Associate and Counsel-level attorney to join its Complex Litigation practice in Los Angeles. These roles offer the opportunity to work on high-exposure matters for a premier technology platform client, handling sophisticated civil litigation at the intersection of technology, transportation, and emerging liability frameworks.

Attorneys at both levels will carry meaningful responsibility over their caseloads, managing complex matters from inception through trial while working directly with the client on strategy and risk assessment. Counsel candidates will be expected to take a leadership role in case management, client communication, and mentorship of junior attorneys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a sophisticated caseload of high-stakes civil litigation involving complex factual scenarios, novel legal questions, and evolving regulatory frameworks
  • Draft and argue dispositive motions, including motions to dismiss and summary judgment, in both state and federal court
  • Conduct and defend depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses
  • Develop litigation strategy in collaboration with senior attorneys and directly with the client
  • Participate in mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations
  • Take an active role in trial preparation and courtroom proceedings

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • Associate candidates: 2-6 years of litigation experience
  • Counsel candidates: 7+ years of litigation experience with a track record of managing cases independently
  • Civil litigation, complex tort, or defense litigation background preferred
  • Active member in good standing of the California State Bar (or ability to waive in)
  • Demonstrated experience with motion practice, discovery management, and case strategy
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills
