Commercial Contracts Attorney
About the Role
A leading nuclear energy company is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Commercial Contracts Attorney to join its in-house legal team at their Washington DC or Austin, TX office. This full-time position is ideal for attorneys with 4-15 years of experience. The role offers the opportunity to work on complex commercial agreements and support cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment focused on clean energy innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including:
- Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
- EPC contracts
- O&M agreements
- Supply and procurement contracts
- NDAs, MOUs, and service agreements
- Advise internal teams including development, operations, procurement, and finance.
- Support contract lifecycle management and implementation of contract tools.
- Collaborate with outside counsel as needed.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local energy laws and regulations.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes.
- Assist with internal audits and risk assessments related to contract obligations.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
- In-house experience at an energy company or law firm experience with energy clients strongly preferred.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with nuclear energy project development and/or construction contracts.
- Familiarity with NRC, DOE, or other nuclear-related regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with international contracts or cross-border transactions is a plus.
