Associate General Counsel - Market Infrastructure & FinTech
We are partnered with a well-established and growing company in the financial market data sector to support the search for a Senior Legal Counsel. This role reports directly to the Head of Legal and will play a key role in shaping and supporting the company's strategic initiatives, commercial transactions, and regulatory matters.
The position offers broad exposure across the business, with meaningful ownership over general corporate, transactional, regulatory, and compliance work, and close collaboration with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. The role is ideally based in Oakland, CA or Chicago, IL (hybrid), though strong remote candidates may be considered.
The ideal candidate has experience in a trading firm or closely adjacent environment and is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, highly regulated financial services or market data context.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Investments: Serve as a legal partner on strategic investments, including managing legal aspects of relationships with inbound investors
- Joint Ventures & Development: Support joint ventures and development agreements from inception through execution
- Commercial & Transactional Work: Draft, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements with strategic vendors, suppliers, and partners
- Operational Efficiency: Improve legal department efficiency around contract management and collaborate closely with sales and finance teams
- Regulatory & Compliance: Provide regulatory support related to the SEC and international regulatory bodies
- Information Security: Lead legal efforts related to the continued development and oversight of the company's information security program
- Litigation Management: Manage outside counsel and oversee litigation matters as needed
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant legal experience
- J.D. from a top-50 law school
- Prior AmLaw 200 law firm experience strongly preferred
- In-house experience required within a trading firm, market data provider, and/or broader financial services environment
