The Opportunity
Our client is seeking an Associate Counsel to join their team in Lisle, IL. This is a hands-on role supporting construction and commercial contracting, claims and disputes, and strategic risk management across major infrastructure projects. The position partners closely with project teams and senior leadership, with meaningful exposure to high-impact matters including public contracting, dispute resolution, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of construction and commercial contracts.
* Develop strategies for resolving claims and disputes and oversee outside counsel on litigation as needed.
* Represent the company in mediations and attend arbitrations as the client representative.
* Draft and support corporate documents, including joint venture and partnership agreements.
* Advise senior-level executives on legal, operational, compliance, regulatory, and corporate governance matters.
* Build strong working relationships with construction project teams and key business partners.
* Develop and implement strategies to improve legal processes and reduce organizational risk.
* Tour regional projects and support project staff on contract and risk-related issues as needed.
Qualifications
* JD or LL.M required; active Illinois Bar required
* 5+ years of legal experience, ideally with public contracting exposure
* Experience drafting/negotiating construction and commercial contracts
* Claims/disputes experience (mediation/arbitration/litigation coordination) and ability to manage outside counsel
* Strong business judgment, communication, and ability to partner with operations in a fast-paced environment
