Litigation Management Attorney
Salary Range: $85,000-$105,000 annually

A well-established third-party claims administrator is seeking a litigation attorney to join its Litigation Management Unit, supporting complex environmental, asbestos, and other latent claims. This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys combining legal judgment with analytics, strategy, and cost management to drive smarter litigation outcomes.

In this position, you will play a key role in managing outside counsel performance, auditing legal spend, and ensuring defense work is delivered efficiently and in compliance with billing standards and coverage agreements. You'll collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, co-carriers, and law firms to promote best-in-class litigation management practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and audit legal invoices to ensure charges are reasonable, necessary, and compliant with billing guidelines and cost‑sharing agreements
  • Use electronic billing and claims systems to analyze spend trends and identify improvement opportunities
  • Provide clear, well-supported feedback to outside counsel and internal teams on billing determinations
  • Analyze settlement agreements, coverage arrangements, and jurisdictional requirements for billing compliance
  • Collaborate with claims leadership and joint defense partners to promote consistent expense management
  • Assist in developing and refining litigation management guidelines and audit protocols
  • Identify cost drivers and recommend strategies to improve predictability and control of defense spend
  • Prepare executive-level summaries highlighting savings, compliance trends, and emerging risks
  • Help resolve billing disputes professionally while maintaining strong working relationships

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD)
  • Minimum of 3 years of litigation and/or legal audit experience
  • Strong understanding of general liability litigation, insurance coverage, and claims practices
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and relationship‑building skills
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with electronic billing or claims systems a plus
