A global client is seeking a Conflicts and Business Intake Compliance Counsel that would play a critical role in supporting the organization's risk management, legal compliance, and business intake processes. This position is responsible for identifying and resolving actual and potential conflicts of interest related to new client and matter intake, as well as the onboarding of incoming lawyers and staff. The Counsel partners closely with attorneys, management, and various administrative teams to ensure that the organization meets its ethical, legal, and operational obligations.

The role provides strategic legal guidance, supports the implementation of risk management initiatives, and serves as a trusted advisor across the firm. The Counsel is a key member of the Office of General Counsel, collaborating with departments throughout the organization.

Essential Functions

Conflicts Analysis & Resolution

  • Conduct initial reviews of conflict reports requested by attorneys.
  • Identify actual and potential conflicts of interest and coordinate resolution among all impacted parties.
  • Review conflict reports for incoming lateral lawyers, new hires, and legal support staff, obtaining additional information directly from candidates when needed.

Engagement Letter & Waiver Management

  • Advise attorneys on appropriate forms and terms of engagement letters.
  • Review and approve engagement letter drafts prior to client distribution.
  • Draft or assist in drafting conflict waivers for inclusion in engagement letters or for separate use.

New Business Intake Compliance

  • Monitor adherence to intake requirements, including proper execution of engagement letters, waivers, and conflict resolutions.
  • Oversee implementation of ethical screens when required.
  • Assess risk related to new clients and matters.

Education & Resource Support

  • Serve as a resource to attorneys and staff regarding conflicts of interest, intake procedures, and related policies.
  • Participate in internal presentations and training programs as needed.

Other Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance on a range of professional responsibility, compliance, and risk management issues.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and implementing internal policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Review and advise on client Outside Counsel Guidelines and vendor agreements.
  • Maintain and update template engagement letters, waivers, and related documents based on evolving law and firm practices.
  • Support the development and enhancement of strategies for conflict identification, management, and resolution.
  • Assist in designing and delivering internal conflicts training for lawyers and staff.
