Sr. Corporate Counsel - Mutual Insurance Company

A leading Mutual Insurance company is seeking a senior Corporate Counsel to join their growing legal team and provide general legal support to the business broadly. This individual will act as a generalist, advising various business lines on a wide range of matters, including general corporate and corporate governance, transactional support, litigation management, and more. Experience in the insurance industry is not a requirement for this role.

The firm operates on a hybrid schedule (3 days a week in-office), and harbors a strong, award-winning culture with an emphasis on offering work life balance to their employees. For candidates that are not local, the firm offers a full relocation package as well.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise senior management on a wide variety of legal and business matters; general corporate, transactional, regulatory, litigation/litigation management, contract negotiation and drafting, and more.
  • Interface with internal parties and external stakeholders - business teams, senior leadership, agencies, vendors, policyholders, etc. - on an as-needed basis. Interactions include relationship management, negotiation, transactional matters, etc.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review various commercial contracts and other necessary legal documentation.
  • Develop and implement actionable strategies to mitigate legal risks and address ad-hoc business issues, acting as a senior advisor to the business as a whole.
  • Represent the firm in industry events, manage external counsel, manage corporate policies and operational strategies, etc.
  • Remain updated on federal and state-level regulations and advise the business accordingly; interface with regulators, draft legislation, interpret developing laws, and more.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree or equivalent.
  • Admitted to at least 1 state bar.
  • 5 YOE handling legal corporate matters; experience in the insurance industry is not a requirement, but is strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; written and verbal communication, ability to work both independently and as part of a team, relationship management and development.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
