The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a senior litigation leader to oversee high‑stakes disputes arising from large‑scale infrastructure and construction projects. This role is highly strategic and hands‑on, focusing on litigation management, claims strategy, and partnering with executives, project leaders, and operations teams to reduce exposure and guide major matters to resolution. The position requires deep expertise in construction litigation, public infrastructure disputes, and alternative dispute resolution processes.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage all litigation related to infrastructure and construction projects, including arbitration, mediation, and other dispute proceedings.
* Develop and execute comprehensive litigation strategies, assess legal and financial risk, and recommend proactive steps to prevent escalation.
* Oversee outside counsel, including budget management, performance evaluation, and alignment of legal strategy with business objectives.
* Collaborate closely with project executives and operations teams to anticipate disputes and address issues early in the project lifecycle.
* Provide guidance and training to leadership and project staff on claims management, dispute avoidance, and best practices.
* Support contract‑related dispute resolution efforts to ensure alignment with project requirements, risk profiles, and contractual obligations.
* Advise on public works‑related matters, including regulatory compliance and applicable infrastructure standards.
* Contribute to internal policy development, litigation management procedures, and training materials to strengthen organizational risk controls.
Qualifications
* Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (New York or California preferred).
* 10+ years of litigation experience focused on infrastructure, civil, or heavy‑construction projects.
* Experience with claims management, arbitration, mediation, and trial preparation.
* Background in transportation, utilities, energy, water/wastewater, or public works construction.
* Proven experience supervising outside counsel and managing litigation budgets.
* Experience working with or against ENR‑ranked contractors, engineering firms, or major infrastructure developers.
* Strong negotiation, communication, and leadership skills suitable for a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment.
* Familiarity with municipal, state, or federal public‑works contracting and ADR processes.
