Our client is a rapidly scaling, venture-backed technology company serving enterprise customers across multiple industries. The company is experiencing significant growth and is building out its legal leadership team to support an increasingly sophisticated commercial operation.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Legal, the Director, Commercial Legal will lead high-value commercial negotiations, manage a small team of attorneys, and partner closely with revenue and business leaders to drive efficient deal execution and scalable contracting processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead negotiations for complex customer, partner, and vendor agreements.
  • Advise stakeholders on commercial, data privacy, intellectual property, and risk allocation matters.
  • Manage and mentor a team of attorneys.
  • Develop and improve contracting playbooks, templates, and approval processes.
  • Partner with commercial, finance, operations, and executive teams on strategic transactions.
  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance across a wide range of commercial matters.
  • Support initiatives focused on contracting efficiency, operational scalability, and legal process improvement.
  • Help develop training and resources that enable business teams to resolve routine legal issues more effectively.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of legal experience, including significant commercial contracting expertise gained in a leading law firm and/or in-house environment.
  • Experience negotiating complex technology and enterprise customer agreements.
  • Prior people management experience.
  • Strong business judgment and ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success building scalable contracting processes, playbooks, and operational frameworks.
  • Active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting high-growth software, SaaS, technology, data, cybersecurity, or infrastructure businesses.
  • Familiarity with privacy and data protection matters.
  • Experience with contract lifecycle management platforms and legal technology tools.
