The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its growing legal team. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with business leaders on a broad range of legal matters, including regulatory affairs, commercial contracting, compliance, litigation management, and strategic business initiatives.
This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who enjoys serving as a trusted business advisor while gaining exposure to complex legal and operational matters within a highly regulated industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel to business stakeholders on operational, commercial, and regulatory matters.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret a variety of commercial agreements.
- Represent the organization in proceedings before regulatory agencies, including preparation of filings, presentations, and hearing support.
- Advise business units on legal compliance, risk management, and preventative legal strategies.
- Manage disputes and litigation matters, including coordination with outside counsel.
- Support analysis and evaluation of strategic business opportunities and initiatives.
- Develop and deliver legal training and guidance for internal stakeholders.
- Partner with leadership teams to identify and mitigate legal and business risks.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law and in good standing, or eligible to obtain additional state licensure as required.
- Minimum of 6 years of legal experience.
- Experience within a regulated industry, regulatory agency, utility company, or law firm is preferred.
- Strong background in contract drafting, negotiation, and risk management.
- Experience managing litigation and working with outside counsel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel periodically as needed.
