Associate General Counsel (Healthcare Regulation/Policy) at Healthcare AI startup
We are partnered with a high growth Healthcare AI startup looking to scale the legal function. This search is for an Associate General Counsel who can lead the legal strategy across healthcare regulation and policy, while also supporting commercial transactions and broader corporate legal matters. This role is ideal for a seasoned attorney who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and is passionate about shaping the future of AI in healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal counsel on federal and state healthcare laws and regulations, including HIPAA, HITECH, CMS, FDA, and emerging AI-related frameworks.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory developments and advise internal teams on compliance and risk mitigation.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements (e.g., SaaS, licensing, vendor, partnership).
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and clinical teams to ensure regulatory alignment in product development and deployment.
- Support corporate governance, employment law, and internal policy development.
- Engage with external counsel, regulators, and industry groups to advocate for responsible AI use in healthcare.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 8-12+ years of legal experience, with deep expertise in healthcare regulatory law and commercial transactions.
- Prior in-house experience at a healthcare technology company or law firm with strong healthcare practice preferred.
- Strong understanding of AI-related legal and ethical considerations in healthcare.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
This role can sit fully remote in the US, however candidates within an hour commute to Palo Alto are expected to be in office.
