Senior Trust Counsel

A leading boutique wealth management platform is seeking a Senior Trust Counsel to join its New York City team. This role supports high‑net‑worth and ultra‑high‑net‑worth individuals, families, and institutional clients by providing sophisticated estate planning, tax, and trust administration guidance within a fiduciary‑first advisory model.

This is a highly visible, client‑facing position working closely with relationship managers, investment professionals, trust administrators, and external advisors on complex wealth transfer and fiduciary matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on estate planning and wealth transfer strategies, including reviewing and enhancing existing plans.
  • Provide legal guidance on trust and estate administration matters, including terminations, decantings, accountings, non‑judicial settlement agreements, and discretionary distributions.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local estate, gift, and income tax laws, proactively identifying impacts on client plans.
  • Review and support onboarding of new trust business in accordance with fiduciary and risk standards.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to internal trust teams on fiduciary decision‑making.
  • Manage and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.
  • Support business development and client retention efforts through client meetings and advisor collaboration.
  • Represent the firm through thought leadership and participation in professional organizations.

Qualifications

  • JD or LLM required; active bar admission required.
  • 10+ years of trust & estates and wealth planning experience (law firm or sophisticated fiduciary/wealth management environment preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of trust laws and estate planning techniques; multi‑jurisdictional experience a plus.
  • Experience working with high‑net‑worth clients and professional advisor networks.
  • Excellent communication, judgment, and organizational skills.

Compensation

  • Competitive base salary in the $250K-$275K range, plus bonus and comprehensive benefits.
