About the Role:

The Staff Attorney will provide comprehensive legal counsel to support the company's business and strategic objectives while safeguarding legal rights, reducing enterprise‑wide risk, and ensuring adherence to governing laws and regulations. This role spans transactional, litigation, regulatory, records management, and data governance work, offering broad exposure to diverse legal issues in a sophisticated operational setting.

This is a hands‑on position for an attorney who thrives in a dynamic environment and values variety in daily work. Responsibilities include drafting, negotiating, advising internal partners, and supporting matters involving procurement, employment, commercial contracts, regulatory filings, records management, energy‑related agreements, and more. The role also involves coordinating external counsel and supporting business units with real estate, intellectual property, disputes, and compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive legal services across the organization, supporting strategic and operational objectives.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial, procurement, IT, and energy‑related contracts while advising on negotiation strategies and compliance concerns.
  • Prepare and manage litigation and regulatory filings, responses to subpoenas and FOIA requests, and support dispute resolution, including mediations and arbitrations.
  • Advise HR on employment matters, HIPAA requirements, and regulatory updates.
  • Support real estate transactions including acquisitions, dispositions, easements, licenses, and leases.
  • Counsel on records management, data governance, intellectual property, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage legal operations across multiple utility business units and oversee external specialized counsel.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC standards and maintain audit‑ready records as required.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA‑accredited law school and active membership in the State Bar of Florida.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in transactional, litigation, regulatory law, records management, and/or data governance-ideally in the energy or utility sector.
  • Technical proficiency in areas such as corporate governance, procurement and contract law, employment law, regulatory law, records management, and Florida Public Service Commission matters.
  • Strong communication skills-written, verbal, and nonverbal-with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Skills in negotiation, performance management, analytical thinking, and strategic problem‑solving.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours and travel as needed; must maintain a valid driver's license and meet safety requirements.
