A leading, energy platform is seeking an experienced Managing Counsel to join its growing in-house legal team. The organization owns and operates a diverse portfolio of large-scale power generation assets across North America and is actively expanding through the development of new energy infrastructure projects.

Backed by a premier global investment firm, the company combines institutional capital with deep operational expertise to deliver reliable, efficient, and flexible power solutions that support evolving grid needs.

This is a high-impact role offering exposure to complex, large-scale development projects and direct collaboration with senior leadership.


Position Overview

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Managing Counsel will play a critical role in supporting the company's engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPC) activities. The role focuses on legal strategy and execution across the full lifecycle of development projects - from inception and financing through construction and operation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support development and EPCM teams with legal guidance across project lifecycle, including development, financing, construction, and operations
  • Lead negotiation of complex commercial agreements, including:
    • Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) agreements
    • Major equipment supply agreements
    • Construction and procurement contracts
  • Advise on risk allocation and mitigation strategies within EPCM structures
  • Partner with finance and legal colleagues during project financing, including diligence related to EPC/EPCM arrangements
  • Provide strategic legal input across multiple concurrent development projects
  • Collaborate with external counsel, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders
  • Offer mentorship and direction to junior legal team members

Qualifications

Required

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Active bar membership in good standing (U.S. jurisdiction)
  • Extensive experience in construction law and energy/infrastructure projects
  • Strong background negotiating EPC agreements and related contracts

Preferred

  • In-house legal experience within the power generation or infrastructure sector
  • Experience leading EPC/EPCM transactions and managing external counsel

Working Environment

  • Hybrid work structure
  • Remote candidates outside of New Jersey will be considered but will be required to travel on a monthly basis
  • Some flexibility required outside standard business hours
