Manager, Global Trade Compliance
Our client, a Fortune 500 professional services & manufacturing company is looking to bring on a Manager of Global Trade Compliance to their legal team. This individual will serve a key role in leading the trade compliance function, as well as lead the import/export operations. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Customs Compliance, Import/Export Compliance, HTS classifications, and managing a team.
Job Title: Manager, Global Trade Compliance
Job Mode: 5-days per week on-site in northern Cincinnati
Compensation: $140,000
Job Description:
- Lead the organization's import/export compliance function, ensuring adherence to global trade regulations while supporting day-to-day international operations.
- Maintain ownership of HTS classification processes, ensuring products are accurately classified and aligned with evolving regulatory requirements.
- Develop, enhance, and drive company-wide trade compliance programs covering customs valuation, product classification, country of origin determinations, free trade agreements, and record retention requirements.
- Serve as a strategic partner to cross-functional teams including Legal, Finance, Tax, Supply Chain, and Operations on matters involving customs and international trade risk.
- Manage relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, government agencies, and other external stakeholders to facilitate compliant cross-border trade activity.
- Oversee internal controls, audit initiatives, and monitoring programs related to tariff classifications, valuation methodologies, trade preference programs, and regulatory compliance.
- Leverage trade reporting and analytics tools to assess compliance performance, identify risks, and support audit readiness.
- Provide guidance and training across the organization to strengthen trade compliance awareness and ensure consistent execution of compliance standards.
Background:
- Demonstrated experience leading import/export compliance programs within a complex manufacturing, distribution, or global supply chain environment.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and Canadian customs regulations, including direct interaction with agencies such as CBP and CBSA.
- Proven ability to interpret trade regulations and translate requirements into practical business processes.
- Experience advising senior leadership and influencing decision-making on trade compliance matters.
- Track record of building collaborative relationships across business functions and external partners.
- Hands-on experience with compliance audits, customs valuation, tariff classifications, and free trade agreement programs.
- Prior leadership experience managing teams and driving process improvements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
- Customs Broker License and/or relevant trade compliance certifications.
- Experience with SAP, Global Trade Management platforms, and trade compliance technology solutions.
- Exposure to large-scale international trade operations within a highly regulated environment.
