Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Counsel
A reputable chemical manufacturer is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Counsel to join their legal team. This role will provide expert legal guidance on environmental, health, and safety matters across operations. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of federal and state EHS regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Advisory: Provide legal counsel on all EHS-related matters, including regulatory compliance, permitting, reporting obligations, and enforcement actions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local EHS laws and regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA, TSCA, RCRA, CAA, CWA) and advise internal stakeholders accordingly.
- Incident Response: Support internal investigations and response strategies for environmental incidents, workplace injuries, and regulatory inspections.
- Litigation & Enforcement: Manage or support EHS-related litigation, administrative proceedings, and enforcement actions in collaboration with outside counsel.
- Policy Development: Assist in the development and implementation of internal EHS policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Transactional Support: Conduct EHS due diligence in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and real estate transactions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with EHS, Operations, Engineering, and Risk Management teams to proactively identify and mitigate legal risks.
- Sustainability & ESG: Advise on environmental sustainability initiatives and ESG-related disclosures and compliance.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5+ years of legal experience, with a strong focus on EHS law;
- Deep understanding of U.S. environmental and occupational safety laws and regulations.
- Proven ability to manage complex legal issues and provide practical, business-oriented solutions.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
