Commercial Counsel

A rapidly growing renewable energy independent power producer is seeking a Commercial Counsel to join its in-house legal team. This is an excellent opportunity for a business-oriented attorney who enjoys working across a broad range of commercial, operational, and project-related matters within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The role offers exposure to high-value transactions and strategic business initiatives, partnering closely with commercial, finance, operations, development, and leadership teams to support a diverse portfolio of energy and infrastructure assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of commercial agreements, including procurement, construction, services, operations, leasing, and project-related contracts.
  • Support legal needs throughout the lifecycle of renewable energy projects, from construction through ongoing operations.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to facilitate efficient transaction execution while balancing legal and commercial objectives.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate contractual and business risks while providing practical, solutions-oriented legal advice.
  • Lead negotiations and manage discrete transaction workstreams.
  • Prepare and oversee contractual notices, claims, and related correspondence.
  • Assist with due diligence efforts, contract administration, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of legal templates, playbooks, and scalable contracting processes.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Approximately 2-5 years of legal experience.
  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
  • Exposure to energy, renewable energy, or power required.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, communication, and issue-spotting skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and cross-functionally with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a desire to take on increasing responsibility.
